11/11/11/1918
In early May 1917 a 21 year old private called John Cornelius Hunt would with thousands of other Australians step of the jumping off spot near a small town called Bullecourt. This was in fact the second battle of Bullecourt. He would be very badly wounded and would eventually be sent home to Australia. This man was my Grand Father. In both battles tanks were attempted to be used but they either failed to arrive at the jump off point or would break down leaving the men to cross the space between them and the Germans without any support. Every 11th of November I think about him and all those other men. The Battle of Bullecourt, while progressing the line less than one kilometre would be at the expense of 7000 Australian casualties. Lest We Forget.
John Cornelius Hunt, 6th Infantry Battalion, 17th Reinforcements, 2nd ('Victorian') Brigade of the 1st Division.
